On Farm Breeding Information

Prior to leaving your mare at Bitterroot Mule Company facilities, we must have received the following:

·    Signed and completed Breeding Contract (a copy of the fully signed and executed contract will be returned to you for your files.

·    A check in the amount of $350.00 (minus any discounts), the 2004 breeding fee.

We do not require but highly recommend that your mare be up to date on the appropriate shots. (4-way, Rhino, and West Nile).

Services:

·    Mare care is provided at $5.00 per day.  Mares are provided with good quality hay and fresh water.  If you mare will require special handling or feeding be sure and let us know.  We will be glad to feed grain or supplements if you provide them.

·        All fees, mare care and any other expenses are due before mare will be released.

·        Bring mare to farm when showing signs of being in heat.  Try to establish a heat cycle before breeding.

·        All mares will be bred using Artificial Insemination (AI).  Mares will be AI’ed every 36 to 48 hours until she is out of heat. Teasing and physical examination will be used to determine Estrous (heat).

·        Mare owner is responsible for having their mare checked to see if she is pregnant and to get her back to us for re-breeding if she is not.

·        Please notify Bitterroot Mule Company immediately upon confirmed pregnancy.

·        Mares may be left until next cycle or upon pregnancy being confirmed by a veterinarian at the owner’s expense.

·        Mares that have not settled after the third heat cycle may be required to be cultured and/or have a biopsy performed.  We want your mare to settle and do not want you to continue expending effort to settle a mare that may be having a reproductive problem.

·        Mares that cannot be handled safely will be refused.  Horse training is not included in the breeding fee.
